.303 headstamp

Can anyone help with a .303 headstamp. I have not come across this one before and can't seem to find any info. I'm assuming it's british, but it could be foreign which is why I can't find anything out.
It is : - J 16 VII
It's the "J" that I need help with.
Thanks, Trailbiker

303 in headstamp.

l think this is a code used by BM&M. Co and Waltham Abbey - they used a few codes that l can remember like; 'B' 'J' 'N' the later is Nobel. Hope its of help. Ron.

"J"

As Ron says, the "J" code was used by Birmingham Metals and Munitions company at their Waltham Abbey, Essex, plant. The origins are that the factory was originally that of F. Joyce and had been purchased by Nobel's (who owned BMM Co.) in 1907.
