Had a quick look at your 37mm shell picture and it looks like the case is German but the shell is British because it is marked VSM for Vickers Sons & Maxim a well known British ammunition maker. Also it looks like there is a brass band around the shell below the copper driving band which could well be a piece of the neck of the case it origonally came in. Might I suggest you click on the search facility along the top of this site and put in 37mm, you'll get lots of info on all sorts of 37mm but in it will be pictures and info on the bits you have.
