37 mm Pom Pom. Fact or Fiction. Fake or ...... ?

Saw this in a friends collection of Anglo Boer War items. My first thoughts were that this was a home made item. In the base are two threaded holes. Is there any way this cound be a ligitimate Drill Round ?

I would hazard a guess that the two holes in the base are fixing holes for when this 37mm was a lamp mounted on a base, as the fuze hole is plugged with a non standard item that could have supported a lamp fitting of some sort.
Best regards Weasel.

It's a German Imperial Navy marked shell, probably originating from the German South West African campaign of 1914/15.
