This from another forum. The case is a typical French Hotchkiss, 37-85, PD.Ps, 1916. The projectile may or may not be appropriate for the case. What is it?
Looks doctored. the rotating band looks very thick and or loose, the brass point looks like a home made plug . Seeing the rest of the projectile would make it easier to make a guess at what it is or was.
Thanks highlandotter. My first reaction was the same as yours. I've asked the owner to pull the projectile and give us a photo of what the rest of it looks like, and any markings.
