.380 Revolver Ammunition (Aust)

Re TonyE's query on the previous thread of ".380 or 38-200" as to whether .380 Revolver ammunition was made at MF (Footscray No.1). Yes, it was made in 1941 only with production going to MQ (Rocklea) in 1942/43 and reverting back to MG (Footscray No.2) in 1944. Although I haven't a box of 12 rounds of MF, they are around. A lot of early MQ boxes show an overprint of MQ over MF and at a later stage MG boxes have an overprint of MG over MQ. Attached are scans of MF headstamps.

The 45 ACP made in 1943/44 were MG and when further supplies were required in 1955/56 the headstamp was MF although made in the same factory as the identifier MG was reverted back to MF in 1949.

Speaking of .45 auto. I have 2 boxes from 1943. Is it normal that they are made of waxed cardboard?

Thanks for that. I have a fairly good representative collection of Austrailian rounds (for a Pom) but I would like an MF .380. Are single ones hard to find over there?

TonyE As to availability of MF .380 rounds, I believe if you went through the swap boxes at meetings they would appear, I haven't seen any at the main ACCA auctions. Once I had picked up the rounds shown and having samples of MG and MQ, I concentrated on finding the boxes but have had no success with an MF box.

Re the query of waxed boxes of 45 ACP (.450), I cannot identify the box shown, however all the Australian .450 boxes I have seen are just plain heavy card and not waxed.
