40mm proof?

Saw this odd piece of "trench art" on eBay the other day, and when I opened the ad to see what it was I could not figure out what it was. From the details in the ad it is 40mm, and 32cm (12.6") in length and was found near a WW2 german position. It has not been fired but seems to have exploded near the bottom. It has a flat head like many proof rounds but looks hollowed from the barbed wire jammed in it. Anyone have any ideas?

I doubt if its a proof projo, because there would be no point in having an explosive cavity in a proof projo.

I didn't think an explosive cavity was normal either.

I was was also thinking a Soviet 45mm but it doesn't look like the right proportions, could be wrong though and it also has exploded so that could be it.

We find a lot russian 45 mm of these in this condition, either a storage blew up or was on fire. You can stick the barberd wire afterwards does'nt look trenchart to me.

Thanks Mr Ango! Interesting, I like things like this but it's overpriced for a blown projectile plus shipping. And I don't think it's trench art either Blu. Seller might be lazy or maybe it's to keep it on eBay so it doesn't get removed?
