Hi all
Bit confused & googling etc is not helping!!
I have some .455 cases some marked .455 Colt by Dominion & some .455 MKII GFL.
These are different case lengths so are they for different revolvers?

.455

The original .455" Mark I revolver case was loaded with black powder, but was shortly afterwards replaced by the Cordite Mark I. The cordite occupied a lot less space in the case than the black powder so when the Mark II round was introduced the case was shortened by about 2.5mm.

The longer case tended to be called the .455" Colt in north America. The shorter case continued to be used for all subsequent marks of the .455 and could be used quite happily in the ealier revolvers chambered for the long round.

Picture shows .455 " Marks I to VI.
