50 Cal ?

A friend of mine is trying to identify a cartridge case, I think its a browning .50 the stamps on the base read
12.7 G. R1. M1. A75

Can anyone offer an ID please?

Could it be South African? I'm sure ive seen the R1 M1 markings on some .303

Yes, it is a South African tracer round (G).

The R1M1 is their equivalent of M1A1 or the British L1A1.

It was made by Armscorp (A) in 1975.
