.5V/580 Vickers Drill Rounds

Picked up a pair of .5 Vickers drill rounds in links, head stamp on both is R"BROAD ARROW"L D1 Z. The Links are stamped .5 MG II N and B.P.LD (assume the maker).

Who is B.P.LD?

Big Al,

An educated guess - British Pens Ltd, although their recorded monogram was "BP" However, they are shown as manufacturers of links.

I can confirm that "BP LD" is British Pens. See the .5 Vickers links in the centre of the attached picture.

I think you will also find that the headstamp on your rounds is in fact "D I N", the "N" indicating Naval use. There would be no point n having a "Z" (indicating nitrocellulose propellant) on a drill round.
