6.5 inch Brass Case - Please help?

Andy Naude

Well-Known Member
Can some one please help me identify this brass case?

Not my personal measurements.

Diameter: 165 mm

Length: 395 mm

Weight: 9.5 kg

Is this a 6.5 inch or is it a 6 inch case?

Can you tell me anything more about it ?

Andy,

I am thinking you have a 6" Coast Defence Gun cart that has been cut down by 9mm to get rid of the notches that hold the closing wad. The cart should be 404mm long. Please measure the base diameter. it should measure around 195mm for a 6" CDG cart. The protruding primer has been removed also.

Regards Ozzi.

[h=2]I think you are right. As I said the measurements were not taken by me. I suspect the measurements may be the external measurements of the case.

See the list below of the various guns used in the Anglo - Boer War.

37mm 193,837 - 37 what an odd number ? How would you end up with a count ending in an exact 37 projectiles !
No wonder Sir Hiram did so well ! And still lots around.

Hi Andy,

Sorry about the irrelevant response but I tried to send you a PM can you please confirm whether or not it came through ;).
