Hello, the good thing with confinement is you tend to rediscover long lost items, wondering what they are and subsequently end up puting them on this fantastic forum . That's the case with this 60 pounder, which was turned into a piece of trench art (but not too modified) by the addition of a small plaque. However, I can't find any shell looking like this one with a "ballistic cap". Can someone help? Thank you.

Hello,
Looks like a fired body of 60pr with a "homemade" windshield.
Regards

Hi That's what I thought, but it looks a lot of effort for a trench art piece. Could the windshield come from another shell?

Why not.
Lot of called "trench art pieces" were made after the war with professional tools.

Yes you are absolutely right, most of if not all what we find now as trench art was made after the war and sold as souvenir to people who went to visit a battlefield. I definitely don't think this particular piece was made in a trench anyway, I don't see any soldier bothering with carrying such a heavy item to bring it back home.
