'A German bomb' - not....?

LEI-13-HG

Well-Known Member
Hi,

This was discovered in a garden in Leicestershire yesterday and blown up by EOD.

It is 17cm long. The residents believe it was a Luftwaffe bomb, but clearly, it is a shell of some type, possibly of WW1 vintage.

Note the unusal metal protrusion at the side, like a winder.

Does anybody know what this shell is, please?

With thanks.

I think that's the top part of a RAF practice bomb from the 1930's . The bits on the side are probably attachment lugs . Surprised EOD didn't recognise it , they very common .

Thanks Siegfreid, I saw an RAF practice bomb on google and wondered if that is what it was. The EOD have responded to several such incidents in Leicestershire lately but, for some reason, never seem to tell the press what the ordnance actually is.
