An old 3 inch 20 Hundredweight ?

Many years ago when attending a training course I had to go through Towcester and I had previously been told that an antique shop had a nice Gun for sale, so off i went to investigate on a cold and wet dark day and this was what I found !

I believe it is a 3" inch 20 Hundredweight Gun removed from one of the Thames Estuary Forts, at the time (I think it was 1983 ?) I was quoted around 550-00 for this Gun :(

I see it is missing the breech block, but still would have been worth 550. I wonder if the barrel was clear or had it been welded up?
