An Unidentified (Military?) Tool

One of my colleagues owns this 'unidentified tool'. He believes it to be a WWII MOD implement. Any ideas as to what it might be? The box belongs to the tool.

It's an Atherton Inertia Wrench. You spin the weight which travels down the shank until it reaches the bottom and it applies a lot of torque to the socket at the end. Good for undoing stuck fasteners.

Many thanks tankbarrell! Now that you have identified the tool for us, we've been able to find out a little more via Google. Interesting - thanks again!!! I wonder what it was mainly used for.......
