I have been reading in the papers about this terrible Zika virus being spread by mosquitos in S. America . Shown is a British anti mosquito grenade from WW2 . Basically a No 83 but filled with DDT instead of smoke compound . They were issued in large quantities to units in the Far East . This one is dated 1944 . Forgot to add it was known as the "Moskil" grenade .

Submunitions were played with as well, mostly in the 4lb size. I don't think that they went far, too many variables and a lock of effectiveness,
 
We opened up some British 4lb submunitions many years ago and they were filled with DDT.
