Here are two steel, hinged clam-shell carriers that I think are meant to support four sections and the wooden nose of a Bangalore torpedo, dating back to early 1960's. The photos show their designations (SV numbers etc.) and identities as Carrier No. 22 Mk1 and Carrier No. 23 Mk1. The cut-out diameters are 1-3/4". All-up weight when filled marked as 68 lbs.
I'm struggling to find a photo or training pamphlet that shows how these would be packed and assume they would be a "two-man carry" but am not sure of the length of the torpedo sections; info. I can find confusingly mentions British Mk1 and Mk2, lightweight versions and various section lengths.
I got the larger No. 23 carrier at Malvern militaria fair around 15 years ago, never having seen one before (or since). The No. 22 end turned up last year in a friends workshop - he'd had it years with no clue as to what it was. Am I right in thinking they're for a torpedo ?
Confirmation - or otherwise - would be welcomed, as would a steer towards photos or diagrams of their use.
