I have just spent a very nice afternoon at Ashworth Barracks (The Victoria Cross Museum) in Doncaster South Yorkshire.
Until a few days ago i had never heard of this museum which is only 30 minutes from where i live,
Located just off the A1 at Doncaster its very easy to get to.
On arrival we were made immediately welcome and a guide proceded to show us around explaining in depth about why the museum was named Ashworth Barracks and at each exhibit again explaining each item ..Yes i did say "exhibits" as this is not one of those museums where you may as well have walked into a library it has actual items many of which you can ask to handle.
The museum also now houses the "Ramparts" Collection formerly on display in Ypres ,
Also on display there is also a lot of ordnance from WW1 to current times
This to me is a little known gem of a museum which i can see becoming bigger and bigger
I would like to thank Gary and the other staff for making me feel very welcome and letting me have a sneaky peak behind the scenes as well, i hope to visit again in the near future.
Anyway enough of me waffling heres a link to the museum followed by a few photos i took today,
