Australian Armour and Artillery Museum - Cairns, North Queensland

BOUGAINVILLE

Well-Known Member
Just had the opportunity to look through the newly opened AUSTRALIAN ARMOUR and ARTILLERY MUSEUM that has not long opened in Cairns, North Queensland.

It is massive and as we speak more extensions are being added and it is ever expanding.

I took heaps of general photo which will give you all an idea of the expanse of the collection and will speak for themselves.

Their website is: http://ausarmour.com/

Cheers,
BOUGAINVILLE

Were you able to add to your collection?

I didn't quite tow one home, but would've liked their small grouping of Japanese artillery.

The meeting went well and ended up with a very nice WWII pineapple and a very nice Australian (British) No.6 Mk1 Director (Aiming Circle) without tripod. Now have to go searching for a tripod to fit.

The exterior restorations look excellent. Were they able to get any vehicles operating/drivable? Would love to tour the work shop there.

and yet more and more........

Most of the stuff is driveable. They have a workshop next to the complex. They also do well in covering up any official butchery. Here are a few before shots of what red tape is capable of. Not that anybody has ever used a collectors piece of artillery to commit a terrorist attack anywhere in the Western World, for starters acquiring the live rounds would be near impossible. As we all know a terrorist's method of choice is MORE cost effective such as car bombs etc,. Red Tape don't see it that way here unfortunately and are more hypothetical and less rational.

The differing styles of butchery must reflect the mood of the day or different person??????

Thank you for the pictures Robert, hope you had a great FNQ meet.

The meeting went well with a good turn out of us Far North Queensland members. Daryl is as always a good host. Our next meet and auction will be in that dry joint called Brownsville (Townsville) around the end of August.
