Here is a trial F2A1 blue smoke grenade that was trialled by SAS in Australia. It uses the body of the M49A1 Flare Surface Trip. Loaded at St.Mary's in 1974, this is years before the larger Smarex F2A1 smoke grenades were introduced.
Possibly it was a trial to find a smaller smoke grenade?
There are 4 dints which held a washer above the igniter and flare composition and leave an air space.
The top of the lever is painted light blue for blue smoke.
Unfortunately someone wrapped tape around the body and lever for security and some paint was lost when removed.
I show the later F2A1 smoke grenade introduced mid 1980's for comparison. A unique grenade. Now inerted.
