AZ 73A3 fuzes

Here is something interesting, I think, for those who like to study manufacturing details.

There are several variations of the AZ 73 fuze for the SD-1 bomb. In the pictures there are three AZ 73A3 fuzes.

The first picture shows what looks like an A3 made from a die that was previously used for the A2. If you look carefully, you can see that the 3 of A3 is actually a 2 that has been altered to a 3.

The second picture also shows an A3 made from a die that was previously used for something else. This time the old number was completely cut away and a new 3 engraved in its place. Hence you can see the 3 sitting on top of a small rectangular platform.

The third picture shows an unaltered 3. Presumably a fresh die was cut to make this fuze.
