I have this ply/wood box marked on bottom B.189 plus the makers name 1955. No other markings.
Any idea what for as I cant find it listed anywhere.

Not certain but it looks similar to the kind of box that held No 80 WP grenades. That type of package was in use from about WW2 until the 1990s, although I don't think more were being made after the 1950s or 1960s. Sorry I can't be more help.
