Taking a secound look at this it becomes more interesting. It was covered
in markings though some are lost, but it doesn't look American.
So what is it from ? I think there may be enough left to identify this and
perhaps it will be of more interest. 8 1/16" height, 3 13/16" outside base Dia.

Well firstly I'll caveat my response with the fact I know very little about Naval items ... And it's early as I type this, m probably also missing the subtly of your question!

So given its 3 13/16ths, It's surely a 4in round
looking at the BC crimps and that the cap comes down to almost proj diameter I'd say it was American design. (Plus your locale)
yellow and red colours I'm sure I've seen on 3in 50cal rounds
could this not be the cap to a 4in 50cal?

i guess it could have been sold overseas if the paint scheme isn't right ?
ok so no fountain of wisdom here ....am I close?

Nothing subtle here I haven't a clue about it ! I hadn't heard of a 4" 50 cal it could well be.

Well if it is and they are hard to get as mentioned then at least it can be a cheap paint reference & relic for some one. $10 plus postage ~
