Baton round maker ID

Can anyone tell me who "FPL" on the headstamp of a 1.5" L2A1 baton round refers to? The full headstamp is "FPL 10 / 70". Is this the date (October 1970)? Also, what does "SPRA" printed on the case stand for? Any info would be helpful.

Hi Falcon, 10/70 is almost definitely the date, SPRA is the old Schermuly code, but I do not know exactly what it stands for. I don't know what FPL is either but I have Baton Rounds with that code on too. Schermuly used to be in Dorking surrey, them moved to Wiltshire, I belive they are now part of PWD (Pains Wessex Defence) Tim G may be able to help with the codes. Tony.

After a little bit of digging, I have found that SPRA stands for the Schermuly Pistol Rocket Apparatus Co. ltd. It was bugging me too ! Tony.

On another thread on Baton rounds I saw a reference to a compnay called Flowform in Wales. I suppose "FPL" could be "Flowform plastics Ltd."

I also have a newer round with "ROUND 37 MM BATON L21A1 PSH07/03 037" printed on the case and no headstamp. I used to know who made this one but accidentally erased the information from my records! I would be equally grateful if anyone could remind me what company this stands for.

FPL Is indeed Flowform plastics , im not sure if the company is still in exsistance it was in Welshpool Powys mid wales in 1979

Thanks for that Steve, now I know two things that i didn't about an hour ago. Tony.

Did Flowform manufacture the cases and load the rounds or just manufacture the projectiles? Drawn aluminium cases seems an unlikely product for a plastics company.

I know that they also did the cases as well
