In a previous post I asked for info about machinist drawing for Big Bertha (42cm) projectiles, as I have a cartridge case and want to make a wooden replica projectile to go with the case. We have been lucky to have some drawings posted with enough info to make a projectile.
Since I like things to be complete and educational, I was also thinking of making up some powder bags that should have been located between the cartridge case and the base of the projectile. Most large guns of that era used the cartridge case to seal the breech, but had additional powder bags stacked above to propel the heavy projectile.
Does anyone have any information about the size or dimensions of these powder bags if there actually were powder bags used in the gun?
Thanks,
John
