It has the appearance of an interrupted screw thread breech mechanism. However, it's a standard thread as opposed to buttress. The markings state it is a 'Y - Go' 'Gauges 4& 5' so I presume it is some sort of 'Go - Gauge'
Thanks for the suggestions guys, I remember now someone way back mentioned it may be a go gauge.......but what for?
Here's a few more pictures showing the thing that is with it which appears to be made out of stainless steel.
The external diameter of the stainless steel piece is 105mm and the internal is 80mm.
