From FM 23-30 Basic Field Manual Grenades June 15, 1942
Body, grenade, hand, fragmentation Mk.II with or without hand grenade fuze M5 (for dummy use) - Footnote stating *"Substitute for training grenade Mk.IAI*
OK, thanks for the research and info. Still confused a bit, but it appears then that my black G marked grenade with filler plug on bottom, at the start of this thread is a "substitute practice grenade" I always had heard thought that the M10A1 on this black grenade was originally supposed to be used as a HE grenade fuze, but they had "flash-by" problems and were relegated to be used as training grenade fuzes?
Is this correct now what my black grenade is.....a "substitute practice grenade"? but it is also "dummy grenade" ? and was never meant to go "POP" or "Bang" as for example a blue "practice" grenade? A soldier-trainee would just pull the pin and throw it for practice of the pulling the pin, and for accuracy in throwing? It never would have had a primer cap, fuze, det or black powder bag?
