Bogus M67

This came to me in the mail today and was supposed to be an M67. My first picture on left is of known "surplus circuit" junk. The next 3 pics are of what was supposed to be an M67. The mold seams run down the sides unlike the known junker where it runs around circumference of body. It is cast. Bottom is flat but it is metal as can be seen from base scratching. It is not the basic surplus circuit grenade but may be another variation of. Stenciling looks odd. So gents what did I end up with here? All "ridicule free" comments welcome.....Dano

Hey Dano, sorry to say that's absolutely a fake. It's a cast surplus novelty that someone has plugged and hand marked. Some people are real scumbags.

Try not to feel too bad Dano. Here is a pic of an acqusition from when I first started collecting. I didn't buy it, it was thrown in on a trade and was said to be a "bonus M67". Bonus my ass, I almost threw it in the trash but it makes me laugh so I kept it.

Hey Dano,

Sorry to see that you got a "lemon" M67 there. Note also in your second photo were the green paint on the fuze lever is flaking of the original blue paint, indicating a repainted M228 Practice Fuze Lever. Also, the body base hole looks like it was probably filled with lead.

If it was represented by the seller as a Genuine M67, hopefully you can get a return / refund privilege as you have a legitimate grievance on this item.

Stay safe,

Frank

Dano,

Unfortunately this hobby (as with all hobies) has its share of both uneducated (honest persons / uneducated in genuine ordnance items) and just plain dishonest sellers. I would try for a refund, let us know If you need help with photos of genuine M67's to make a refund case with the seller. I do not see any way that he /she has an argument if this was represented as original. The seller had to be either uneducated as to what what a genuine M67 is or just dishonest in the description.

Stay safe,

Frank

The guy I got it from was ignorant of the fact, uneducated so it was no fault of his. Went by word with no picture. At least everything else in deal okay and I am sure he will make it right

Here is a photo of a "Genuine WW2 Grenade" that a very well meaning family member (Uneducated in ordnance) picked up for me at a shop a few years back, fortunately for only $20.00. I reimbursed him the money, gave him a crash course in Mk 2's and kept this example to educate others. It is a good learning example as everything is wrong!

I don't know about that Frank. Other than the body, paint, fuze body, missing striker and spring, sealing washer, spoon and pull ring, it looks pretty good. Just can't see the details on that cotter pin, but it might be OK.

Hello Rick,

LOL, I forgot to mention that the bottom hole was sealed with a rubber plug before paint job.

Good to hear from you, I hope that all is well!

Stay safe,
