Bomb girls

The objects held look like the sand cores for forming the cavities of 112lb HERL bombs - probably the Mks VI and VII.

The attached images show sand cores for making 3" mortar bombs (WWII), but there is a strong similarity to what the girls are holding in the opening post - the head and tail supports for positioning the core in the sand box are distinctive. The size of a 112lb HERL bomb casing was about 26" long and 9" diameter and weighed 85lb. If the girls were holding 85lb bomb casings they'd probably not be smiling so much. The cores are much lighter.
