Cutaway model of a British WW2 bounding AP Mine Mk2. The mine consists of a cast iron ‘bucket’ with a carying strap in which the mine is placed. Inside the bucket a cast Iron mine body is placed with a cast iron centre piece. The centre piece houses the threaded holes for the two fuzes; the pull fuze and the mine activation fuze. In the base of the centre piece the filler hole for the explosives is drilled.
On the right one can see the pull fuze; a wire is connected to the ring of the pull plate in top of the fuze. If the plate is pulled out the spring loaded firing pin is released to move downward into the propelling cartridge, made from a .303 shellcase. The gasses propell the mine upward from the bucket, shearing the two screws in the base of the mine hich connect it tot he bucket (not visable in this cutaway model).
As the mine is projected upward, the lever from the mine activation fuze -left- is released and rotates to allow the spring loaded firing pin to move into the duplex detonator. This will explode the mine approximately 3 to 4 foot above the ground , making casualties up to 30 feet.
Data:
Height of the mine : 200mm
Diameter of the mine : 89mm
Weight of the mine : 4,5 kg
Explosives : 0,5 kg Amatol
