Brass end cap on 24cm German cases (and 28cm)

Just picked up a German 24 x 103cm case, 1918, its unfired so still has the brass end cap. Unfortunately it looks as though someone has cut a hole in the cap.

Anyone got any photographs of what it should look like, unmolested? Diagrams are all side profile and not too clear, unsure if there was ever supposed to be a (smaller) hole in the cap.

Tempted to fabricate a replacement, it looks like a simple brass disk soldered to a cone shaped ring.

Many thanks,

Chris

Fantastic, many thanks - should be easy to reproduce to the exact same specifications.

Was the end cap removed before firing?

Any good books on these large calibre cases?
