The shell is MkI Shrapnel (typical brass head)

as the case is not marked in the typical British format and can't see a broad arrow but is by VSM I would suggest it is UK export.

I agree it is hard to see the headstamp properly. Needs a clean and does not look like a usual format. Can we see a better view?

These appear frequently in the united states, i have seen approximately 7 or 8. I believe they are part of the original batches we probably purchased at the same time we purchased the 2.95 inch guns from the british around 1898. We would go on to rapidly adapt our own designs and intermediary designs for the projectile as we developed newer or experimental fuze designs to be self reliant for ammunition. Might i also add all the ones i have seen do not have broad arrows, also attributing them to being of export origin.

A nice Dummy for the same 2.95inch. The centre of the primer has been replaced for some reason.

What fuze is used with this item? I see the 5/00 the R arrow L then IV. I am guessing a NO IV or MK IV?
