BRITISH and GERMAN HE shell colours

Greetings..........
I understand that there are official colour names (or numbers?) for the paint shades as used on projectiles. Possibly to do with modeling?
I am trying to find the correct shades of colour for British and German HE shells. They are both a kind of yellow. Years ago i found some olive-green paint (in a spray can, Japanese manufacture, I think) that was the correct colour for some US equipment and projectiles. So can anyone tell me if there is anything available, preferably in spray cans, but I would use whatever may be available. Plain steel tends to rust in damp winters. [And as an aside, why is this British site telling me that I can't spell "colour" correctly.....? LOL ]

OK so I have been to the Restoration pages and have learnt that the British HE colour is "Golden Yellow" # BSC381C - 356.
Wonder if I can find that here in NZ......we shall see.

I am sure a car paint shop or supplier would have a BS381c colour chart.

* added note I have just checked your profile and your language is set to English (US) this could explain why your getting problems with spelling the word colour,
I will change it for you to the website default setting ,so if you can try it and let me know if thats made a difference

British HE colour is BS381C colour Buff No 359, except in certain items such as aircraft bombs or for camouflage reasons when the colour is Dark Green No 224 (A.M No 6). Most package markings use Golden Yellow No 356.
As you are in NZ you should contact NZL1A1 who is doing a large 9.2" APC shell manufacture and marking project in forum Spotting Fakes and Reproduction Items.

Thanks very much, Spotter :)
Colour still red-underlined 'tho.
It's not at all important, it just amused me,

The original British Colour you need is British Standard BS 381C (1964) 359 Middle Buff

Typically in New Zealand you will have a lot of trouble finding a paint store that will be able to make you a colour using that British Standard, they just don't seem to have the formulation information at hand to do it.

If you are looking for a 'can' of paint go through Wattyl Taubmans and ask for: AS2700 X41 Buff for doing the British HE rounds.

If you are after an aerosol can contact these guys in Auckland, they will make the paint for you and put it in a aerosol can http://www.autopaint.co.nz/about-us/

I don't know how much a can of spray paint will cost, but I suspect it won't be cheap. Ask them to make the BS381C (1964) 359 Middle Buff

Good Luck

NZL1A1 Collector.................
