Here is a No3 Mk1 grenade in excellent condition made by THE COTTON POWDER Co.Ltd.LONDON HALE'S PATENT.
I ask about the steel protection cylinder. It has no rod hole in the lid.
It looks original and has dints where the clip hit the lid so been together a long time.
Books say the lid is sealed with Pettman's Cement but surely the hole would let moisture into the grenade.
I doubt that cement would be applied to the hole and rod? Only to the lid.
I ask if this tin is correct. 198x43mm (7 3/4" long).
The rod is also 11" long x 0.301" diam (not 10") so may be a replacement?
Should I make a hole in the lid or leave it as is? Are other tins known without lid holes?
