British No3 Mk1 Rifle Grenade and Protecting Cylinder

Here is a No3 Mk1 grenade in excellent condition made by THE COTTON POWDER Co.Ltd.LONDON HALE'S PATENT.
I ask about the steel protection cylinder. It has no rod hole in the lid.
It looks original and has dints where the clip hit the lid so been together a long time.
Books say the lid is sealed with Pettman's Cement but surely the hole would let moisture into the grenade.
I doubt that cement would be applied to the hole and rod? Only to the lid.

I ask if this tin is correct. 198x43mm (7 3/4" long).
The rod is also 11" long x 0.301" diam (not 10") so may be a replacement?
Should I make a hole in the lid or leave it as is? Are other tins known without lid holes?

Hi,
I know very little about grenades I'm afraid, but would the rod be screwed/fixed to the grenade before using. That is to say, the grenade, as a single component, would be transported around in the airtight tin, and removed for attaching the rod prior to firing?
Or is the rod/grenade one whole assembly?
Cheers!

I reckon the head was in the container and rods were not attached till needed.
Page 21 of Landers Grenade book says the base had the hole for the rod and shows a diagram.
