Calling all M24 experts: is this authentic Stielhandgranate Ubung?

Grenadier, grenademan, Tmine35, Paul , & of course Jeeensy, image.jpgimage.jpg nd the rest of y'all that have helped me out before, I need it AGAIN! What are y'all's thoughts about this practice stick grenade, real, fake or somewhere in between. My first thought was it was in way too good condition to be real. After having read AGAIN the threads in "spotting fakes...." Section for the umpteenth time, I'm not so sure it's not original. I anxiously await the verdict.

I have never seen a repo trainer. But they seem to repro everything so maybe. Dose the head have any markings or date? I feel the head is a good one but have concerns on the handle, it is dated 41 but the collar is the crimped style what didn't start until 42/43. Also, not sold on the markings and the red colors don't seem to match.

Here are a few pictures of some of my trainers.

I have 2 complete original ones in my collection. One has head marked 41brb and stick without any markings. The other has no markings on head but stick is marked RRR and Ueb.
All training m/24 which I have seen have had the old pattern thread connector attached with 4 screws on stick - not pressed as yours. However it does not mean your connector could not be correct.
All connectors which I recall having seen have had a reinforced thread for fuze, a small extra collar giving longer and mode solid thread for fuze. In "normal" connectors the fuze thread collar is just pressed down from same material.
Markings on your wooden stick look suspiceous to me.

There has been plenty of training heads alone on market, as well as sticks and hardware and it would not be difficult to build one from "original" parts.

The "waxed" feel may come from a coating by a French museum. I know at least on many WWI grenades that were culled from closing French museums had a wax coating, I would think as some sort of preservative

Thanks guys for response. There are no marks I can see on the head. I've seen some m24's that were assembled from different grenades & this doesn't have that look. I am suspicious of almost all sticks of this era (from being burned) but y'all this piece honestly "feels" like it's been together for a long time. The components look to be of approximately the same age, and again, for what it's worth, feels like it's been wrapped in protective wax fabric for some time. My wife is a collector of antique wooden carvings & has bought some old pieces that were stored in this way & this has that same feel to it, from the wax residue completely & evenly over entire grenade. If this is a fake, or even original. "Frankenstein" made from other originals , they went to a hell of a lot of trouble to only get $125 USD. Got it from a non militaria antique dealer in France of eBay the same hour it was posted. I'd been burned for a lot more. $ by repro's that looked a lot less authentic than this, so I took the chance & grabbed it.

Training sticks are usually marked UB or Ueb on the stick, except very early ones.

136.jpgearly pre war trainer not marked UB. This one has the hook on the head.

135.jpg134.jpg133.jpgThese three are all marked Ub, the one in the middle is a 43 marked and has the later pressed on collar vs. the earlier style with the screws.

HI,,,Its a 100% fake :(

I was hoping it was partially"real" Like we've all said before, if something appears too good to be true, orobably is! I hate it when I have to learne the same lesson more than once ya gotta admit though, it WAS a pretty good looking fake! Think I'll head Jeeeensy's advice this time & stop buying stick grenades by myself. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Good thought Tim, using resources can be a big help. I try to stay within my realm and if out of my realm I definitely ask for help. For any old item that has value, some PINHEAD will always try to fake it. Oh well this forum has discussed the ins and outs of repros and fakes, with mixed feelings always the outcome. Right, wrong or indifferent fakes and repros will always be bane of collectors
