Can Anyone Help Please? M24 Grenades

Is there a way of removing the top end, without ruining the handle? The screws are gone but it will not move. It seems that they were glued on, by what I see on the other handle. There remains a black glue like substance.
Hello,
No, it's not epoxy glue. That is bitumen substance, placed originally there exactly to connect wooden and metal part. But it can't be found at every stick; later during the war this "glue" was sometimes omited.

Thanks for the complement. It was on and off project. I did fill the head with 4 oz. of paraffin wax to give it the right weight, as my research said that it had 4 oz. of explosives in it. I attached some photos of my most recent project. The only thing I need to do is add 8 oz. of weight and shellac the label.
