What is the difference between the No.27 detonator and the detonator for the No.69 grenade?

Anders,

The original detonator used in the 69 grenades was a Commercial No 6; later on the Detonator No 46 was used which, I believe is basically a commercial No 6 to a military specification (possibly with an adjustment of the filling).

The No 27 Mark I was identical to a Commercial No 8 Detonator. The No 27 det (0.35g ASA / 0.55g CE) is longer (1.76-in x 0.26-in D) than the No 46 (5.4 grains ASA / 3.9 grains Tetryl) (1.4-in x 0.26-in D). The No 27 det was used on (for instance) the No 75 Grenade.

Sorry about the mixed units but I'm sure you can do the conversions if required.

Hi Bonnex,

Thank you for your always very informative answers.
Regarding the No.27 Mk.I versus the German No.8 my experience is that although they are exactly the same length, the No.27 is smaller in diameter. The once I got will fit right into the cavity of the No.8. Also the No.8 will not fit a Switch No.10, not the once that I have tried anyway.
