Distress Flare Tin

A recent find, A cylinder Marked No 603 Mk 1 on the base, and HBS 1959. Painted markings as per pic. Push fit snap on lid. Approx. 5.5" tall and 4.25" wide. I would quite like to know whether these flares would have been 1" or 1.5" and also would this be for Boat/Ship or maybe Vehicle or Aircraft use ? No contents or packing

Aah, thanks for that Gary, I thought the tin was a bit big even for 1.5" carts, mind you it doesn't say carts, I just assumed it. Thanks for that link, it's a good website for such things. What do you think, Ship or Aircraft ? Tony.
