Early pattern cardboard tube for 2" mortar bombs + 2" drill rounds ....anyone help?

butterfly

HONOURED MEMBER RIP
Some pics of what I believe are early pattern 2" mortar bomb carriers. Both are slightly different in that one (dated 1942) has press stud retainers on the straps, the other (dated 1943) does not. I just noticed that on the part that secures the tightening wire one is marked Montreal and the other London, so both possibly Canadian manufacture, which would go along with the 'yellower' webbing, which is typical Canadian. Both carriers are in overall good condition, though rust from the end caps has caused the strap at one point to almost sever the strap (this of course is not beyond repair).

These have been offered to me by a friend and I want to give a fair price for them, but do not have anything to base it off. (if anyone has any ideas of price could you please pm me - price for a single carrier)

Pictured also are some drill 2" mortar bombs which came inside one of the carriers, condition speaks for itself (again if anyone has any idea of value on these pm me please)

all help appreciated.

regards Kev

The carriers both look good. Early war pattern like these are a lot harder to find compared to the later war pattern with individual tubes. And both patterns of 2-inch carriers are significantly higher priced than the 3-inch patterns. As an example, I've sold 3-inch pattern for $50-75 when we could get $450 for a 2-inch pattern. Prices in U.S. Dollars and dated to around ten years ago. Price fluctuates based on demand and availability of the gear. About five years ago someone turned up in Canada with roughly 20 of these early pattern carriers and the price slowly went down as they were sold off. The first ones got high dollar and each after that was a little less until they hit around $100 each at the end. Now they are all gone so likely the price would be higher again. The drill rounds are probably in the $75-100 price range I'd say. Someone only wanting a single might pay a higher price if they couldn't find a round in their country now that most ORD is land-locked due to shipping issues.

I can remember when 3" carrier's were silly prices, then someone turned up at the War and Peace show about 8 years ago with a pile of them neatly stacked 5 foot high pyramid style at a fiver each, that winter the price settled to 60. I know these 2" carriers fetch silly money but if you wait they do turn up at the right price.
