The link shows a picture of the 'shrapnel' from a veterans leg, which could be from an ied i suppose but looks more likely to be the remains of the coffin. Are there any undertakers out there who can identify the metal remains ? or confirm they are remnants from an explosive device of some description.
Cheers

I think the family got fobbed of with that lot, if it was in his leg it must have been a false leg,,,,,, Dave

they are the staples left over from making the coffin as used in a staple gun instead of nails and the other bits are used in the making of the lining or rather to hold it together

I know the Germans were getting desperate in the final days of the the war, but using screws and wire for loading rounds seems a bit much. Sounds more like improvised cannister for muzzle loading artllery a couple of centuries back.

Surely there wouldn't have been a leg left if all that had ended up in there. I can't see anything there that looks like shrapnel or a bullet.

I find that story very distasteful . The chances of that being shrapnel are zilch . The family is being conned . If the BBC can run a story like that , it's a bad day for the truth . Surely someone could have seen that is impossible ?

Did the Germans use Phillips head screws?? I've only seen slotted screws in the boxes I've seen. I would tend to agree with y'all. If I had that much steel in my leg, I wouldn't be able to stand let alone walk. Cheers, Bruce.
