Engraving tool

HONOURED MEMBER RIP
Howdy All,

I have seen numerous items of trench art, not always coming from the same country or source, yet the engraving seems to be done by a tiny engraver that looks to do a zig zag pattern. Does anyone know what machine does this, it could not be engraved by hand like this to get it so even!

Thanks,
Regards Ozzi

Probably hand punches, but i wouldn't rule out engraving by hand, there is a picture of some french soldiers decorating shell cases on the road side with not much else than a tool bag, small fire and a bucket of pitch.
