Flying SD2 butterfly bomb.

Sorry for deleting the pic. Of the wings something went wrong on my side.

Here is some more wings section pictures.First picture have exploded half of the shrapnel head.

This specific LW depot was burned with thermite by germans when they left it and all the ordnance burned there.

Thanks, great pictures. Interesting that the small end wings stay in such good condition but the main brake wings don't.

As Dave has said, excellent pictures. I love to see these wing units in 'as found' condition.........they almost appear 'frozen in time'

thankyou for posting

kind regards Kev

Thanks Andy, e mail sent.

Just be aware the film is QUICK. The butterfly was dropped out a first floor window and I live in a cottage so its not exactly a tall house. What you need to do is freeze the frames on the film and the rotation of the wings can be clearly seen. It surprised me how quickly the wings started rotating (I dropped it straight and didn't try to rotate the wings), they would certainly arm the fuze very quickly. I'm still looking for a really high place to drop one from:neutral:
I've never seen any footage of either SD2's or M83's being dropped and only one photograph of SD2's in flight. If anyone has any photos/films of them being dropped I'd be very interested in seeing them. I'd imagine being on the receiving end of these would be a very frightening experience even if they didn't explode.

Dave.

I've just watched the video Dave, and you can see the wings rotating clearly.

Excellent stuff Dave.

Has anyone managed to track down any archive footage of real ones flying? I've had a good look at youtube and not found any footage.
Dave.

Hi Dave,
I have had a good look as well and never seen any, I am trying to find a free bit of software I can use to slow down that bit of footage and tack it on the end of the realtime bit.

Hi Dave,
I have just worked out how to do the video editing and have uploaded a new video to replace the last one showing both slow motion and realtime drops. I have edited the link in the previous post and here it is as well. You can clearly see the wings rotating now.
Best regards Weasel.

Thanks panzer, i always wondered how these little fuzes worked. I wonder if anyone still has the big training fuzes seen in the film.
Cheers, paul.

I was wondering the exact same thing Paul - arent they fantastic models - someone went to a lot of trouble to produce those!!

Now they would be nice to add to the collection!!

regards Kev
