Found recently on old WWii range

Hallo everyone,
Found this on an abandoned wwii range recently, anyone know what it is. There was a little square tab at the top in the center but is has fallen off.
Any help will be much appreciated, really puzzled on this one. Photo of item attached.

It's an unidentified piece of metal. I have found thousands of such in different forms from various WW2 sites:bigsmile:
