I have attached a picture of a standard French 37mm WW1 projectile with a square box type marking. Is this to indicate that it is practice, and if so what would have been the loading? Is the marking of WW1 or later origin?
Hello,
Typical marking for inert loading (practice or test), weighted (sand or similar).
I'm not sure about the first use of the square.
The oldest documentation I know where this square is mentionned is from 1930.
