French 81mm mortar fuze?

Darkman

Well-Known Member
Having just read a recent thread on a French 81mm mortar fuze, I think I've got something similar.
It's similar, but can anyone tell me what it is exactly?
Aluminium nose cap has corroded away, but the brass section (including gaine) is 78mm long. 20mm diameter at the top and 27mm at the skirt.
Marked "V8 - I" and "B- 5 -36".
Thanks, Graeme

Hi Darkman,
are you sure of the marking V8-I ? Shouyld it not can be V18-I ?

Your fuze is VERY similar than a 24/31 V18-I used with 81mm mortar !

Hello,

Exactly the same shape as French mortar fuze 21-28mm B Mle 35 (Brandt), but different markings (it's the first time I see such a marking V8-I)

Thanks Mineaz16. It is identical to the fuze in your photos. Does Mle 35 indicate introduction in 1935? I also presume 21-28 is the dimensions of the fuze (diameter) in mm.

-Yes, Mle 35 is for "Modle 1935" (introduced in 1935)
-Yes , 21-28 is for dimensions (diameter of the thread, and diameter of the base head).

I assume your fuze is a Brandt design, same as 21-28B Mle 35.

Hello,

I heard this fuze could be for Romanian 60mm mortar (made by VOINA) - not sure.
Some French fuzes were manufactured in Romania but markings are often U..., U6 for the French 21/28 B 35 (U2 for the 24-31mm Brandt V18)
