Hi
194mm type 1893, as far as I know a Navy gun, 1st Lot of 1901, not sure which manufacturer is R, I know Rs is Rennes, but never seen R, may be someone can enlight us?

Thanks for the reply, so both are 194 French? Why is there a difference in diameter? Is the actual size not the same as the nomenclature of type?

Hello,
Your case 1 is a 194 de marine (for the french navy). The rim diameter is 236mm and length 662mm. The manufacturer R is given to be "Fonderie de Ruelle" . Ruelle sur Touvre near Angoulême.An important manufacturer for the Navy. On the cases for the Army the stamping is FRE. On 75DEC, 105Long Mle 1913.
Your case 2 is a 164 de marine. Stamp 16.93.96 rim diameter 215mm length 690mm. I don't know who is the manufacturer DD, also often encountered on cases for the Navy.
Regards,
Dandebur.
