German 28mm Projectile - or is it??

I acquired this by trade many years ago from a good friend who specialises in German ordnance and have always been puzzled by it. It is made of steel and measures 73mm long by 28mm diameter. Weight is 161g. It stamped '40.11' and 'bne 39'. If it is 'made up' somebody has put a lot of effort into it, but then I can remember those fake German 12.8cm projectiles which were made in Eastern Europe a few years back. I'd appreciate your thoughts...

Hello,
SG500 and Fjordhouse are your men.......however imho I'd say the flanges are too thick and it doesnt have an array of holes in the flange like all other German flanschgeschoss.

thats not to say it wasnt made in the same period as a test piece, or prototype.....it just doesn't have the appearance of a production round to me

others opinions may differ, hopefully they'll add some more info

I'd say the flanges are much too thick for a taper bore projectile.
Interesting piece.
Dave.

This is a very bad fake, the 12,8 were made in Hungaria 16 pieces were made, the quality of the 12,8 was very good the only mistake was the stamping. Ben
