German mortar round with slots

Hello,
I have found these photos from a 10 cm German mortar round. The round has 3 slots in the body. Maybe this round was used as a practice one. From Hungary I got a photo of a 8 cm mortar round also with slots. Imaginable a glass ampoule with a liquid smoke charge was used inside.
