I have one with sides made of solid wood and bottom and top cover made of plywood.
 
Late in the war also pieces from pressed material were in use, consisting of sawdust and wood waste;
this material proved out to be very sensitive to humidity, despite a considerable coat of paint - the result was a dangerously increased instability of the whole box.
