Could you post some measurements of the mouth diameter, rim diameter and case length in mm?

This could well be a 10.5cm Howitzer case. If that is what it is, the length is correct.

having the same opinion as Falcon...

the SPxx stamp is the acceptance stamp from Spandau Arsenal(Berlin).

You can see the ring left by the projectile sitting in the case - if that wasn't there, it might be suspect

Looks very much like a German 10,5 cm Howitzer and if it is, the projectile never sat in the case, it being separate loading.

The ring is made during manufacture when the inside of the case wall is lathe turned.

I believe that the machining inside the neck, which is common on many cases, also thins the brass to help it expand quickly. The gas seal at the case mouth is important before gas can leak down the outside of the case. It would probably be covered by a cupped wad when the case is loaded.

This turned part was called "Rauhung" = roughing. The reason for this was a better seat of the "Kartuschdeckel" (cardboard cup)
